Lobby-ing for USH Campaign Raises Awareness in Boston for Rare Disease
Our Lobby-ing for USH campaign took place in four iconic buildings in Boston this past year: 99 High Street, 501 Boylston Street, One Financial Center, and One Boston Place. The campaign was created with the intention to raise awareness and visibility for Usher syndrome, a rare disease that causes progressive deafness and blindness. Corderman & Company is the founding sponsor for the Usher Syndrome Society, a non-profit whose mission is to raise public awareness and research funds for every type of Usher syndrome to find treatments and ultimately a cure for Usher syndrome (USH). Two of David Corderman’s children have this rare disease.
This campaign features a series of portraits which exhibit the faces and stories of those diagnosed with Usher syndrome, highlighting both the hardships and reality of living with this disease as well as the hopes and dreams of these individuals.
These Lobby-ing for USH exhibits were often accompanied by an event during which breakfast croissants, fruit salad, and coffee were offered to tenants with the option to participate in an experiential task: attempting to serve themselves breakfast while simulating the hearing and vision loss of someone diagnosed with Usher syndrome. Blind folds with pin holes and ear plugs were utilized to create this experience, further educating the public on what it is like to live with this disease.
We are profoundly grateful to the management groups at each of these buildings, who graciously hosted these exhibits and supported our mission to raise awareness for this disease.
