Corderman & Co. Helps USH Society Raise $100,000+

Corderman & Company founder, David Corderman, speaks alongside Nancy Corderman, founder of the Usher Syndrome Society. They are at PKL Boston, surrounded by attendees of the fundraising event, hosted to raise funds to find a cure for Usher syndrome.

Earlier this week, Boston-based construction management firm Corderman & Company proudly supported the Usher Syndrome Society’s first in-person fundraising event since 2020, helping to raise over $100,000 for Usher syndrome research. Usher syndrome is the most common genetic cause of combined deafness and blindness. Presently, there is no cure.

The Usher Syndrome Society’s fundraising event took place on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at South Boston’s hip new venue, PKL, which features indoor pickleball courts, cornhole, shuffleboard, and an array of delicious food and drinks. With over 175 attendees, the event was both a fundraiser and an immersive educational experience that drew from a larger series of Usher Syndrome Society awareness events called Sight, Sound, Strength. These events are unique because they not only ask attendees to imagine a world in which they are losing their hearing and vision, but they invite attendees to experience Usher syndrome’s devastating symptoms using blindfolds and ear plugs. Previous Sight, Sound, Strength events have included rock climbing, beer tasting, and a taco bar. At PKL, attendees attempted to play pickleball while confronting the simulated loss of vision and hearing due to Usher syndrome.

As a founding sponsor of the Usher Syndrome Society, Corderman & Company’s efforts were vital in the success of this Sight, Sound, Strength event. In addition to a Platinum Sponsorship contribution, which allowed the Usher Syndrome Society to secure the event venue, the Corderman team also supported the event through volunteer assistance, engaging extraordinarily generous sponsors, preparing educational materials, setting up the event, and coordinating the various activities at the venue.

The partnership between Corderman & Company and the Usher Syndrome Society is deeply personal, as David Corderman, the founder of Corderman & Company, has two children who have Usher syndrome. Following the unexpected diagnoses of their children in 2011, David and his wife, Nancy Corderman, established the Usher Syndrome Society to raise awareness, and the critically important financial support necessary to develop treatments and the hope of a cure for Usher syndrome. Over the past 10 years, Corderman & Company has committed significant financial resources toward the advancement of the Usher Syndrome Society mission.

In addition to the Corderman & Company team, there are many other sponsors who made this evening possible:
